RailRunner is a game where you act as the 'overseer' for railway stations and trains in a small area. Along the tracks there are stations that have cargo that they wish to be transported to a certain other station, often within a time limit. The player will be 'juggling' the different trains between the stations, trying to make things go smoothly and avoiding deadlocks and delays. -If the transport succeeds the player will get money, the amount depending on the type of cargo and the delivery time, but (in certain cases) money may even be deducted, if for an example the delivery of a 'critical' cargo fails.

The aim of the game is to until you make a certain amount of money, at which time you will get to play a new map. -With operating funds constantly being deducted, it is a race against time to reach the money objective for each level!

How to play

Control is achieved by switching rail-couplings to decide which way the trains will turn at junctions, and it is also possible to stop trains by activating crossing-signs.

Rotatate rail-coupling
Point at it and click left/right mouse button.

Toggle stop sign
Point at it and click woth your mouse.

Hold/unhold cargo at station
Click on cargo at station to toggle wether it is held or not. If it is set to "hold", the next passing train will Not be able to pick it up

Drop cargo at station
Click on cargo following train to toggle wether it should be dropped at the next station or not (even if this is not the correct destination for that cargo)

Exit/Finish game
with the [Esc] button on your keyboard.

You can play each level for as long as you like - even after you have reached the money objective, but if you slip below it again (as money is constantly being deducted) you can not finish the level without losing it. - Make sure to finish while on the plus-side of the money objective, or you will not be allowed to continue to the next level!

Development status

Not much left to do, actually, only I've been side-tracked (heh!) by other projects that have popped up. Main things left to complete are:

  • Graphic polishing
  • Menu system improvements
  • Some level design

    The color in the middle of the cargo is that of the target station


    And the color of the timer-ring says what Type of cargo it is


    Red: Game over if late
    Yellow: Pay fine if late
    Green: No punishent if late
